Sheinbaum Reaffirms No Chinese Investment in Tren Maya

The mayor of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, denied any participation of Chinese investment in the Maya Train project. This came after U.S. congressmen linked the Chinese company Vulcan to the railway project.

According to Sheinbaum, the case has been transferred to Alicia Bárcena to seek a solution that avoids a legal battle, but the region can no longer be exploited due to environmental impacts. The company had operated in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, and upon leaving the permitted area triggered intervention from Mexican authorities, resulting in a change of land use to a protected natural area.

In response to a letter signed by 35 U.S. lawmakers addressed to President Donald Trump regarding the case, Sheinbaum will send a clarifying letter. The congressmen argue an expropriation that the president denied, stating that the land has always belonged to the company.

On the other hand, regarding accusations of alleged Chinese financial participation in the Maya Train, Sheinbaum assured that the information is public and that such funding does not exist. Amid tensions with the United States and detached from Claudia Sheinbaum's administration, official Albores reiterates her intention to proceed against the company Vulcan.
